Abide Today

Sometimes I think about the different experiences each of you have had this week. If an artist tried to capture everyone’s journey, the painting would be full of color, showing all the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, successes and struggles, and everything in between.

If we looked at a snapshot of our community, we might see children heading to school, parents caring for their families, students studying for exams, busy days at work, small groups meeting, leaders talking, volunteers helping with Feeding San Diego, worship teams getting ready, and families coming together for an upcoming funeral for their loved one.

My own small part might be reaching out to the Glen Abbey managers about getting rid of tree trimmings that had grown onto our property. They kindly let us use their dump site. A few weeks ago, a team cut the branches, and Elmer Babao and I took them over together. That simple act of kindness shows how people naturally look out for each other, and it’s something we can all notice and follow.

But beyond what we can see in our daily lives, I hope for something less obvious—a quiet sign that shows our desire and choice to spend real, meaningful time with God each day. Jesus invites us to connect with Him, and this isn’t just a suggestion. It’s truly a matter of life and death. So, how do we respond? Is staying close to Him a real priority, or has it just become another thing on our busy to-do list?

Many of you already have a good routine for your devotional life, and I’m glad for you. I pray that you continue to find strength and refreshment in it. If you feel the need to start or begin again, let me gently encourage you: make time to abide today. God honors that choice, and He is always faithful to meet you when you come to Him (John 15:4-5).
