WALKING WITH JESUS
The older I get, the more I want a slower life.
The world nowadays is too fast. I find myself being in a hurry all the time. Even when I have some quiet moments, I feel the need to be “productive”. Companies are creating products and software that are supposed to optimize our time. The irony in it all is that we aren’t using our free time to be still or restful.
Shows. Reels. Shorts. TikTok’s. Finding the next dopamine hit after scrolling through hundreds of short-form videos. We compare ourselves with each other. Sometimes convincing ourselves that the lives that we currently live aren’t enough. And when we finally decide to sit down with Jesus in the quiet of our day, His presence feels foreign. How can one slow down in this environment? “Don’t you know, Jesus, that I have things to do, places to be, people to meet?”
You can tell a lot about a person by the way they walk. Their posture. Their pacing. The sense of urgency or the lack thereof. Yes, even you have a unique style to the way you walk. Here’s the beautiful lesson in walking: To be in step with a friend, you must walk at the same pace. The more I read the Bible, the more I have a deep sense that Jesus never walked with urgency. Never in a hurry. He befriended the slowness of life.
For me, Jesus is teaching me to walk slow with Him. To put my hands behind my back, drag my tsinelas a little, and breathe slower. For you, He might be doing the same. Or He might be grabbing your hand, pulling you into a life full of adventure and wonder. Whatever life He’s calling you to, know that His hand is mightier than yours.
So walk with Him. Just remember to stay close.
