When God Holds Our Hands

The other day, I was playing the piano for Marleigh. I set her in her little Bjorn bouncer and started singing “Jesus loves the little children.” I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think she really loves music. Whenever I play, she smiles and coos. Whenever we have praise team practice at the house, she smiles and coos. When the Philippine Meistersingers came to our church for their concert? You guessed it! She smiled and cooed.

One afternoon, I decided to sit her on my lap at the piano. This time, I held her little hands so we could duet together. And of course, we played the most classic beginner’s song: Chopsticks.

There we were. Her tiny fingers under mine, pressing random keys, making the simplest tune. And yet, it felt so beautiful. This daddy’s heart couldn’t get enough of it. Moments like that should last forever. Additionally, in that moment, I thought, “This must be what it’s like when God holds our hands.” On our own, we can only manage a few clumsy notes. But when He guides us, even the simple things become something special.

It reminded me of this verse:

“Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”(Psalm 37:24)

Just like I held Marleigh’s hands on the keys, God holds ours in every season. Whether life feels like Chopsticks or a grand symphony, it’s all beautiful when it’s played with Him.
