Always A Student
Graduation season is a vibrant and joyous time, marked by celebrations and unique traditions. From funny car drawings to students adorned with leis, the festivities are endless. Some schools, like Pacific Union College, have quirky traditions such as throwing tortillas into the air during graduation ceremonies, leaving one to wonder if they are corn or flour tortillas.
A popular verse often recited at graduations is from Proverbs 3:5-6, where a father advises his son: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path." This verse emphasizes the importance of faith and guidance in one's journey.
During my time as a Theology major at Southern Adventist University, a professor shared a perspective that transformed my view of education. He said, "The goal of education isn't to give you more answers, but to equip you in asking more questions." This insight highlighted that education is not merely about memorizing information for exams but about exploring the unknown. It underscores the idea that learning is a lifelong journey, and even after graduation, one should remain a student.
In the text, the New King James Version uses the word "acknowledge." It's crucial to understand that the original Hebrew word implies more than just noticing God in our lives. It suggests an intimate knowledge of God, encouraging us to delve into the depths of His heart. This is not about seeking answers but about cultivating a deep curiosity about who He is.
To the graduates gathered here today, we celebrate your hard work and dedication. May you embrace all the love and support surrounding you. Let this moment be not the end, but the beginning of your adventure in the heart of Jesus.
