With God Wherever We Go

You might not have noticed that gas prices have gone down recently, but for families planning summer trips, it’s a welcome change. Some in our church family have already traveled, and others are getting ready for their vacations. Whether you’re taking a big trip, a short weekend away, or just relaxing at home, these times give us a chance to rest, recharge, and make special memories with those we love.

Last weekend, our family probably made our last trip to Pacific Union College, up in Northern California. We attended and celebrated the graduation of our youngest daughter, Andrea, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing last Sunday. When I filled up last Wednesday, the gas price had dropped a little from the week before, when we arrived home. It was a small but welcome blessing for anyone traveling.

No matter what you have planned this summer, I pray that you and your family enjoy special moments together and come back refreshed in body, mind, and spirit.

Even more, I hope our lives and stories keep pointing others to Jesus and His saving grace in everything we do. Vacation isn’t a break from our relationship with God. Instead, our trips and free time should show that we are still walking in faith.

At our Wednesday evening Prayer Meeting, Marilyn Billosillo led us in a study about Enoch and what it meant for him to walk with God. The Bible says, “Enoch walked with God. One day Enoch could not be found, because God took him” (Genesis 5:24, ICB).

The Spirit of Prophecy says Enoch’s life was always connected to God. He lived with prayer, keeping his “heart ... upon eternal treasure,” and always looking toward God’s home. The clearest picture of his life is in these words: “Enoch’s walk with God was not in a trance or a vision, but in all the duties of his life.... In the family and in his intercourse with men, as a husband and father, a friend, a citizen, he was the steadfast, unwavering servant of the Lord” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 85). I hope we can have that same experience at home, at work, and even when we’re on vacation.
